Description
In general, Hôjicha or Houjicha refers to a green tea that has been roasted. It usually consists of later tea pickings and includes the flavourful tea twigs/stems as well. Since the roasting process also removes most of the caffeine, hojicha can be consumed by children, the elderly and those with caffeine sensitivities.
Our Organic Hojicha Raku 楽 is a medium roast hojicha that has been ground into powder form. It is very practical for use in lattes and desserts.
The aroma and taste floats between the lighter floral fragrance of tea and the darker notes of coffee, hazelnuts and cacao. This is the hojicha that we use in our vegan hojicha gelato. It comes from a small family farm in the mountains of Yame, Japan.
