Premium Matcha Ken 賢 is a matcha we recommend for premium lattes and desserts. However, make no mistake – this is not a so-called “culinary grade” matcha that is often of inferior quality.
We recommend Matcha Ken for lattes and desserts as it is a very well-rounded matcha that will hold its own even in the presence of a creamy plant-based milk. There is very good aroma, some umami and milkiness, balanced out with a nice bitterness and low astringency. The green it produces is also appealing. This is the matcha that we use in our vegan matcha gelato.
Note: We would like to bring your attention to the current severe shortage situation in the matcha market. Due to changing climate conditions, this year’s harvest in Japan has been particularly challenging, while global demand has risen sharply. This has resulted in great competition for the extremely limited raw material and therefore, significantly higher prices.
Unfortunately, Matcha KEN, is only be available in conventional (non-organic) quality this year due to production decisions made by our supplier.
For customers who still want a good yet affordable organic matcha, we have temporarily introduced organic matcha HANA. Please note that it is a grade below Ken.
